The BBC Symphony Orchestra celebrates the life and work of Jonathan Harvey in a day of concerts, films and talks
Jonathan Harvey may be a 'spiritual' composer, but he has nothing in common with the 'holy minimalists'. His music is complex, making use of sophisticated harmonic ideas drawn from the physics of resonating bodies, and it often incorporates banks of sophisticated electronic gear – as the performances this weekend will demonstrate. Harvey has written many exquisite small-scale works, which can be heard in the opening orchestral concert and in the choral concert at 6.00pm. But he also works on an epic scale, as is shown by the main orchestral concert and the opera Wagner's Dream.
