Janacek Violin Sonata Brahms Violin Sonata No 1 in G major Stravinsky Duo Concertante Respighi Violin Sonata in B minor
Leonidas Kavakos violin Nikolai Lugansky piano
Leonidas Kavakos presents a recital capturing the intense musical landscape of late Romantic/early 20th century Europe. Stravinsky’s Duo Concertante is an angular, thrilling piece with a piano part that ducks and dives as though in hot pursuit of the violin. There are yearning melodies aplenty in Respighi’s little-known gem (championed by Jascha Heifetz) and in Brahms’ ‘Rain’ sonata, so-called because of its pitter-pattering sonorities.
