Mercury Rev realise the symphonic potential of their widescreen Psych Pop alongside Royal Northern Sinfonia.

Constantly pushing the boundaries of what rock music can be, Mercury Rev have always experimented with grand and enveloping arrangements. Here, lush strings meld with Jonathan Donohueís reedy melodicism as they rework highlights from their restlessly creative career, from early grungey work, to the dreamy euphoric sound of Deserterís Songs, through to the sweeping chamber Pop of recent years.

After a seven year hiatus, the band released the cinematic The Light In You in 2015, their first album for Bella Union. This performance revisits work from that album, and filters their other work through its soundworld, as they are joined by label founder and ex-Cocteau Twins member Simon Raymonde and Royal Northern Sinfonia as part of Bella Unionís 20th anniversary celebrations.

Royal Northern Sinfonia are the orchestra of the Sage Gateshead and have previously toured and recorded with Bella Union artists John Grant and Lanterns on the Lake.

Danish dream-Pop group Lowly, who are also signed to Bella, will provide support on the night.
