Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir

Photo of Estonian Chamber Choir against an industrial background

The Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir performs the music of Arvo Pärt and his Estonian forebears marking 100 years since the proclamation of Estonia as an independent, democratic republic.

The Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir embodies a very particular choral tradition – with one eye on the Russian vocal heritage, another looking very definitely west. Their relationship with Arvo Pärt is famous, but tonight they broaden that picture with music by his compatriots and Jonathan Harvey.

It certainly offers a fascinating perspective – with a luminous turn-of the-century post-Soviet spirituality, set alongside some of Pärt’s most admired sacred works. And all performed by the EPCC under its music director Kaspars Putninš, performers admired for their superb sense of balance and vocal cohesion’. (Bachtrack)
