Jonas Kaufmann’s Residency continues with an evening of Wagner: including the complete first act of Die Walküre.

’The pre-eminent Wagnerian tenor of his generation’ declares The Independent of Jonas Kaufmann – and few would disagree. This second concert in Kaufmann’s Barbican Residency teams him with three other supreme Wagnerians in the complete first act of Die Walküre.

Kaufmann sings the tragic hero Siegmund alongside soprano Karita Mattila and bass Eric Halfvarsen, and Sir Antonio Pappano conducts the London Symphony Orchestra. That would be an event in its own right; first, though, there’s a chance to hear Kaufmann singing solo in Wagner’s Wesendock Lieder. His recent recording of which was hailed by The Guardian as ‘exceptional’.
