Having made a career out of sidestepping convention, here Tindersticks once again take their brooding, minimal guitar music in new directions once again, performing their new album The Waiting Room to a backdrop of specially commissioned short films.
Continuing guitarist and singer Stuart Staples’s growing interest in film, the project flips on its head the convention of musicians composing to film. Instead, the band provided a series of arthouse film makers including Cristoph Giraradet, Claire Denis and Pierre Vinour, Gabriel Sanna, Rosie Pedlow and Joe King with music from their new record to use as inspiration to create accompanying visuals – creating the films to an existing soundtrack.
While Tindersticks’s music has always had a certain cinematic quality to it, crooning vocals and intricate guitars conjuring up images and narratives played out in your head, this is a chance to see that take shape on stage, the short films making each track explode into life before you.
