Benjamin at the Barbican

Lunchtime with George

19 March 2016 / 13:00
LSO St Luke’s

 Sold out

George Benjamin introduces his ravishing chamber music in this fascinating upbeat to tonight’s performance of Written on Skin.

Our George Benjamin Composer Focus begins intimately, with Benjamin himself introducing performances of his chamber music by pianist George King and members of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra: five exquisitely crafted miniatures, heard up close.

Few living composers craft their music with more delicacy or imagination than George Benjamin, and before entering the astonishing soundworld of Written on Skin this evening, this lunchtime concert at LSO St Luke's offers a perfect introduction to his creative universe. Benjamin himself introduces five chamber works, and discusses his imaginative debt to artists from J.S. Bach to Henry Purcell.

Listen to our podcast below, with interviews with George Benjamin and counter-tenor Iestyn Davies.
