Music from Renaissance Spain and England

Peter Phillips conducts the BBC Singers in a programme of English and Spanish Renaissance polyphony inspired by the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Victoria’s Salve Regina incorporates the original and haunting chant melody echoed in Guerrero’s exquisite Ave virgo sanctissima, while Tallis’s large-scale work straddles the late medieval and Renaissance in musical style. This concert is a prelude to the UK premiere of Brett Dean’s The Annunciation at Barbican Hall, 7.30pm.
