The meditative aura of Schubert’s Notturno arises through the piece’s slow unfolding of a single Adagio movement. The Piano Trio in E-flat major is more dramatic in scope, with striking contrasts and folk-inspired melodies. Kurtág’s piano miniature is a tribute to Schubert, a great inspiration to the Hungarian composer.
