Berg Violin Concerto
Mahler Symphony No 1 'Titan'

Semyon Bychkov conductor
Leonidas Kavakos violin
London Symphony Orchestra

Mahler began his First Symphony in his late twenties. Incorporating themes from his earlier song cycles, this monumental score charts a young hero’s coming of age. It retains a youthful energy, but explores suffering and sorrow, and ends by defying the mundane and insisting on life’s joy.

Change of programme
Leonidas Kavakos will now be performing the Berg Violin Concerto, as circumstances have prevented Osvaldo Golijov from completing his own concerto in time for it to be premiered in London.
(update posted 17 Sep 2012)

Pre-concert performance 6pm, Barbican Hall
Guildhall Artists at the Barbican
Mahler Piano Quartet Movement in A minor & Schumann Piano Quartet in E flat Op 47, performed by Roberto Gonzalez (violin), Miguel Angel Rodriguez (viola), Leander Kippenberg (cello) and James Sherlock (piano)
