We have learnt that Sir Colin Davis has had to withdraw from the concert for health reasons, and illness has also forced Mitsuko Uchida to cancel. Sir Colin is sorry to have let everyone down and very much wants the music-making to continue, however it has been necessary to make some changes to the programme.
The evening will now open with LSO Leader Gordan Nikolitch directing Mozart’s Symphony No 35. Long-time friend of Sir Colin Davis soprano Sally Matthews will then perform Strauss' Four Last Songs and the second half of the concert remains the same with Elgar/Payne Symphony No 3, now conducted by Martyn Brabbins.
The concert will still very much be in honour of Sir Colin’s 85th Birthday, with special birthday messages in the programme from his friends and collaborators.
Regarding his future concerts, we are awaiting news from Sir Colin – he very much hopes to return to the podium as soon as possible.
