Vertavo Quartet
Norway’s Vertavo Quartet, praised for their ‘phenomenal expressive flexibility’ (Guardian) present an enticing programme of Nordic pieces. Poul Ruders last wrote a string quartet in 1979; since then his unfettered imagination has dreamt up ever more sensuous and incisive chamber works. Danish master Hans Abrahamsen achieves a luminous breadth in his third quartet (2008), while the fragility of Saariaho’s Terra memoriam contrasts with Jouni Kaipanen’s bracing The Terror Run.
Per Nørgård String Quartet No 11 has been replaced by Poul Ruders String Quartet No 4. This is also a world premiere. Per Nørgård regrets the cancellation of this commission due to pressure on his composing time in this busy 80th birthday year.
