Brahms Violin Concerto
Suk The Ripening

BBC Symphony Orchestra
Jiří Bělohlávek

Isabelle Faust violin
BBC Symphony Chorus

After all the adventures of the season the final concert returns to romanticism. Josef Suk's The Ripening portrays 'the joys and tragic shadows of life' and at the end brings in a wordless chorus to sing a 'hymn of affirmation'. Brahms's sunny Violin Concerto also ends with an affirmation, but it's more of an earthy dance than a hymn.

From the complete Sibelius Symphonies, to Dvorak’s neglected masterpiece The Jacobin and thrilling premieres by today’s most exciting composers, there is something for everyone in the BBC Symphony Orchestra’s 2011-12 season. Find out more in our special season preview film:
