Sibelius En saga Dvarionas Violin Concerto (UK premiere) Sibelius Symphony No 2
BBC Symphony Orchestra Thomas Søndergård conductor Vadim Gluzman violin
This concert throws a light on the rich and still little-known musical culture around the Baltic Sea. The Lithuanian Balys Dvarionas's Violin Concerto is a defiantly unashamedly romantic outpouring, and its UK premiere is performed here with Sibelius's vivid tone poem, En Saga, and his compelling Second Symphony which culminates in a glorious finale.
From the complete Sibelius Symphonies, to Dvorak’s neglected masterpiece The Jacobin and thrilling premieres by today’s most exciting composers, there is something for everyone in the BBC Symphony Orchestra’s 2011-12 season. Find out more in our special season preview film:
Please note that Thomas Søndergård has replaced Neeme Järvi as conductor for this concert. Please also note the change to the originally advertised programme.
