To coincide with the latest release from globetrotting DJ Gilles Peterson, the Barbican hosts an evening of Cuba's freshest musical talent - from Latin, afro jazz and fusion to hip hop, funk, reggaeton and R&B. Powered by Roberto Fonseca's acclaimed band, the night features Cuban star Danay (described by Gilles Peterson as 'Cuba's Jill Scott').
Roberto Fonseca has shared the stage with Cuban legends such as Rubén González, Ibrahim Ferrer and Omara Portuondo. For The Havana Cultura Band, he is joined onstage by an all-star group featuring old school master reedsman Javier Zalba (Irakere), the most versatile bassplayer in Cuba Omar Gonzalez, drummer Ramses Rodriguez (Chucho Valdes), Joel Hierrezuelo on congas, producer/percussionist Vince Vella and DJ Gilles Peterson, the mastermind behind Havana Cultura Remixed.
'A snapshot of Havana's music scene two generations on from Buena Vista Social Club...but also embracing salsa, reggaeton and pop... Fascinating.' The Guardian on Gilles Peterson's double CD Gilles Peterson Presents Havana Cultura
