Concert performance

Mozart was just 24 years of age when commissioned to produce a work for Munich's carnival season. An ambitious young man, with Idomeneo he seized the opportunity to display his formidable composing talents. The result marked a turning point in his career, and its bold inventiveness and originality continues to grip audiences today.
Australian tenor Steve Davislim takes the title role, joined by the exciting young Swedish soprano Camilla Tilling.
Thomas Hengelbrock founded the Balthasar Neumann Ensemble in 1995, drawing together outstanding soloists to perform music on period instruments – something in which they continue to excel today.

Promoted by the Barbican.

‘Camilla Tilling had personal sweetness and vocal charm.'
The Daily Telegraph

‘…a sort of magic emanates from the pit, as Thomas Hengelbrock and his own Baroque orchestra, Balthasar Neumann Ensemble pull more and more new sounds out of their orchestral hat.
’ The Arts Desk
