Vivaldi poured some of his most spirited music into his opera based on the Italian epic poem, Orlando Furioso, a rich source of inspiration for several composers. Arias dazzle with Baroque zest, others dwell poignantly, more still brim with passion – and all are a gift for expressive singers as they draw us seductively into Vivaldi's bewitching world of sorcerers, knights and magic.
Many of the musicians of this concert collaborated on a recent and acclaimed recording of the work – so expect engaging rapport, thrilling teamwork and most importantly excellent singing from the exhilarating soprano Veronica Cangemi, captivating contralto Marie-Nicole Lemieux, the vivacious mezzo Jennifer Lamore and the exquisite countertenor Philippe Jaroussky.
‘The Ensemble Matheus plays with supercharged energy, but also with precision, vibrant colours and elegant articulation.’ The Times
