Mushi’s second adult film is a summary of the visual, satirical and political tropes of the 50s and 60s, with hallucinogenic colour schemes and highly stylised animation.

Keep an eye open for collages more familiar from Terry Gilliam’s TV work, but using artists like Courbet and de Chirico.

Tezuka can never resist comic asides at dramatic moments, and he emphasises the absurdity of sex alongside its risks and rewards in this experiment in time travel.

1970 Dir. Osamu Tezuka & Eiichi Yamamoto 112 min.
