Detroit (15)

Trailer for Detroit

A powerful gripping drama directed by Kathryn Bigelow; director of The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty, about July 1967, when rioting and civil unrest threatened to destroy Detroit.

A racially charged incident took place at the Algiers Motel, involving the death of three black men and the beatings of nine other people; seven black men and two white women. Three white police officers and one black security guard are accused of carrying out the crimes.

Dismukes (John Boyega) plays the security guard who is called upon to work an extra shift, at a store on the night of the riot. Working alongside police officers, who he attempts to befriend by offering them hot drinks, the group become caught up in a serious situation. A gunshot is heard being fired from the Algiers Motel. It is at this point when racist cop Krauss (Will Poulter) decides that this is the time to make his views heard.
