Park Chan-wook (Oldboy, Lady Vengeance) returns with this absorbing and erotic crime thriller.

Transporting the action of Sarah Waters’s novel Fingersmith from Victorian London to 1930s Korea, it tells the story of a young thief named Sook-hee. She has been hired to serve as the handmaiden to Lady Hideko, a young Japanese heiress, but is actually a pawn in a plot by the predatory conman Count Fujiwara to defraud the Lady.

With simmering sexual tension and a luridly twisting plot, The Handmaiden is driven by remarkable performances from its two leads – newcomer Kim Tae-ri as Sook-hee, and Kim Min-hee as Lady Hideko – with sumptuous direction from Park.
