Come and Play Two free days of amazing music making for anyone of any age 6 & 7 Nov 10am – 5pm
Have you ever wanted to play a musical instrument? Bring your family and friends to try the trumpet, discover the drums or play the piano and fill the Barbican with sound.
Sat 6 Nov 10am-5pm Barbican Centre The Barbican is offering you and your family to come Have A Go with our music instrument workshops. If you have ever wanted to try Folk, Classical or even Rock, come and take part in one of our many music workshops.
Why just play instruments when you can make your own. Drop in and join renowned architects Jonathan Pugh and Douglas Murphy in Percussion Buffet and assemble your own set of drums. Why not make a whole orchestra and take part in the String Making and Wind Making too!
Don’t miss the music making installation in the Barbican Foyers, Play Me, designed by musician and artist Jo Green. With so much to discover make sure you leave plenty of time to experience it all. Don’t rush home, finish off your day of creativity and head to the Barbican Hall for Play-A-Long. Watch trained musicians play along to silent film You’re Damn Tootin, then play -a -long yourself, you could even use the instrument you’ve made!
Sun 7 Nov 10am-5pm Guildhall School of Music and Drama Whether you’re aged 8 or 80, bring your family and friends and come and take part in musical workshops and begin a musical journey. Become a member of the Scratch Ensemble, led by the Urban Folk Quartet, no music reading required!
Release your inner Rock God with our Rock Band workshop; give in to the rhythm with our Percussion Beats workshop or belt out a tune with Sing, any ability welcome.
It’s never too late to be the next Mozart, whatever age and whatever experience, we have experts to help you in I wish I could play the Piano…
Don’t just end your musical discovery here; we’ll be offering advice throughout the weekend on how to continue your new found passion for you and your family.
The Come and Play Weekend coincides with the London Children’s Film Festival which takes place at the The Barbican and other London venues between 30 October – 7 November. Now in it's sixth year, the Festival is the biggest celebration of film for children in the capital. Watch, create and take part at the Barbican and cinemas across London.
