Meeting the need of future creative leaders.
What I enjoy most about the Leadership course is that it offers a real-life experience close to that of a professional musician. It has the right balance of work and freedom, enabling you to explore your own personality as an artist

As part of Creative Learning at the Barbican and Guildhall School of Music & Drama, the MMus Leadership Programme offers an unrivalled range of opportunities for students within an internationally renowned centre for the arts situated in the heart of the City of London.

The Leadership Programme is designed to help professional arts practitioners meet the challenges of the future. The programme provides students with a unique opportunity to extend the boundaries of their performance practice and to explore different creative processes in a practical and reflective research environment. Students are encouraged to identify a personal pathway for their development as a practicing artist in a variety of artistic, cultural, community and educational contexts.

Supported by a team of active practitioners, researchers, guest speakers and project leaders of world renown, students can develop their skills in a range of areas including improvisation, group composition, cross-arts collaboration, performance and creative workshop-leading for different contexts. With a strong focus on reflective practice, students develop an informed awareness of the wider context of their work.

The Programme also offers opportunities for students to get involved in collaborations with established artists, creative research laboratories, professional placement opportunities, and local, national and international residencies and exchanges (recent placements have taken place in Singapore, Bali, Malaysia, Gambia, Argentina and West Bank).

In addition to the Leadership Programme, Creative Learning delivers modules to all Guildhall undergraduate students, helping them to develop the diverse range of skills needed by artists in the twenty-first century. Linking with programming and reaching across the art forms, Professional Development opportunities are provided for students, teachers and professional artists from across the Barbican-Guildhall campus, supporting the development of the practitioners of the future.

The Leadership Programme is offered on a two-year full-time basis. For further information please contact Jose Martins on jose.martins@gsmd.ac.uk or call 020 7382 7199.
